Togo
Current Churches & Ministries
BIMI began working in Togo in 2000 by partnering with veteran missionaries that had already spent a decade in the country. The primary work was in the largely unreached northern cities of Kara and Dapong. Since 2000, there have been numerous churches established by missionary and national efforts and a national Bible institute, which currently serves ten full time students. Seven pastors have already graduated and are pastoring churches. Children are involved in Bible clubs and vacation Bible schools, while teens attend an annual retreat held between Christmas and New Years. Recently, a camp ministry has also begun for youth, which is based in southern Togo near the capital, Lome. Right now, the camps are mobile until the camp property is fully developed. Church conferences and ladies’ conferences are also regularly held. Additionally, an aviation ministry was established in 2000 to reach remote villages. As a result of these efforts, missionaries in Togo are currently working alongside 15 different congregations.

Unreached areas/peoples
With 37 distinct ethnic groups and around 6 million people, Togo is a mix of different tribes each with a distinct culture. The two largest groups are the Ewe, who are concentrated in the south; and the Kabye, who are concentrated in the North and central parts of Togo. Though French is the country's official language, a majority of its people speak or understand the Togolese languages of Ewe and Kabye. About 29% of Togolese profess some form of Christianity, 20% are Muslim, and the remaining 51% practice animism. Most Christians live in the south, and many of them are from the leading Ewe tribe. However, an equal number of Ewe are also animist, living in the shadow of fetish strongholds and the false hope of reincarnation. Togo has deep roots in voodoo and fetish worship. Voodoo curses and animal sacrifices are daily realities that enslave the people in a vicious cycle of powerless fear and sinister control.
Special projects/opportunities
Clearly, God has been at work in Togo in a very special way for many years. We have been able to be a part of changed lives for first generation Christians. In the coming years, the ministry in Togo must change from an addition stage to a multiplication stage of ministry. This will happen as Togolese continue to reach Togo for Christ. As we champion the past, our vision must move from vision to reality. Please consider giving a part of your life to help us reach Togo.
